Mrs Universe Farewell Function

999561_612308092134780_244508395_n *Lynne in her National Costume with designer Michael Bezuidenhout and Ronel C (who made the gorgeous head piece)

Lynne and I met when we both auditioned for Musical Theatre at TUT in Pretoria in 2002. We became pen pals after that, but as life went on, we lost contact after a while. We reconnected at Karlien and Derick’s wedding were I learnt that she was crowned Mrs South Africa in 2011. Lynne has always been beautiful (I’m talking off the charts gorgeous here), but her inner beauty is what makes her sparkle and shine.

She planned on going to the Mrs World pageant in China at the end of August, but was then asked to take part in the Mrs Universe pageant in Aruba earlier in the month and jumped at the chance. We were asked to help her plan her farewell function at Emperor’s Palace in JHB on 27 July 2013. The brief was simple elegance and the evening was to be relaxed and informal. We wanted to do something a little bit different with the decor, so we rested the chandeliers on the coffee tables instead of hanging them from the ceiling.

She showed us her National costume and her crowning dress and the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Minister Toko Xasa (in pink), wished her good luck with a heart-warming speech.

A-list guests and government officials spent the evening networking and mingling to the sounds of The Muses and the evening was a great success.

Jennifer&Thomas: 12 April 2013

Jennifer and I met over Skype a couple of months before their wedding. Skype is always a bit tricky if you are chatting to someone for the first time and you don’t have the camaraderie of shared memories to fall back on when there is a delay in signal or the video feed freezes, but with Jennifer, it was like chatting to an old friend. I couldn’t see her very clearly, but her kind voice and bubbly personality more than made up for those technicalities.

When we met in person for the first time a week before their wedding, I found that her beautiful interior matched a stunning exterior and I just knew that the photo’s from their wedding would be amazing.

Jennifer is originally from South Africa, but she met American military husband, Thomas, in Dubai where they both work. They looked so cute together – he, the towering soldier and she, the dainty flower. There were many who wondered why they didn’t just get married in Dubai or the States, but Jennifer had told Thomas that if he wanted to marry her, it would have to be in South Africa. And so here we were.

The ceremony took place in the beautiful stone church in Hout Bay, complete with wooden pews and a vestry and a string duet ushered our gorgeous Bride in to where she would say her ‘I do’s’. Decked in full military uniform, the groom and his groomsmen looked dashing and only Thomas’s smile when he saw Jennifer walking down the isle, could outshine the medals and badges on their perfectly pressed jackets.

The reception was held at Suikerbossie Restaurant and the hall was softly decorated in vintage creams, blues and pinks. The Bride very carefully brought the loveliest chocolate shells in dainty little boxes all the way from Dubai as gifts for her guests and candles and fairy lights provided the ambient accompaniment. Thomas’s motorbike fetish was jokingly portrayed in the cake topper and even ‘Cake Topper Thomas’ couldn’t keep his eyes off his gorgeous Bride riding pillion with him.

The weather was perfect for photographs in the harbor and the plantation behind the restaurant and Jennifer even managed to make rusty old boats and dried twigs look glamorous and elegant.

jenniferthomas_duo_0050 jenniferthomas_duo_0053 jenniferthomas_duo_0080 It was a beautiful day and a beautiful wedding and guests partied the night away as Thomas swung Jennifer elegantly across the dance floor.

Jennifer and Thomas, we wish you a lifetime of happiness and adventure. May you always look back on your wedding day with a smile and make many more special memories in the years to come.

Natalie & Herman: 30 March 2013

Herman, Margaux and I all studied together at the Tshwane University of Technology in 2005. Herman was a ‘boerseun’ with shorts and ‘plakkies’ and at first glance, you wouldn’t be able to figure out how he fits in amongst the hippies and artists in the Musical Theatre department. But then he would open his mouth and sing and it would all make sense… After his studies at TUT, he signed with a group that toured Spain and sang in restaurants, cruise ships and theatres and that’s where he met beautiful, bubbly Natalie – a performing artist from London. It was love at first sight and from the moment they first met they were inseparable. When we were asked to help them plan their wedding in Blouberg, we were over the moon, so happy that our friend has found his true love and that we would get to share in their special day.

They wanted something low-key and intimate and wanted to share South African flavours with their overseas guests. The wind literally blew us off the beach that day, so we opted to have both the ceremony and the reception at the Sir David Boutique Hotel. Guests were treated to ‘braaivleis’ and ice cream and the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen. It was as if the sky wanted to fit in with Natalie’s colour scheme of bright orange and pink. I just love it when nature comes to the party with such panache and this sunset splashed colour across the heavens with reckless abandon.

There were heartfelt speeches that had everyone in tears or stitches in turn, but once the party started you could see there were performers in the house!

Thank you Herman and Nats for allowing us to be a part of your day. May the rest of your journey be written in lights and may your marriage be the performance of a lifetime!

Cindy & Christo: 9 March 2013

When I first met Cindy, I found myself constantly staring at her (blush). She was just such a beautiful and graceful girl and her love for her friends, family and ‘her Christo’ simply radiated from her and made her shine. When we started planning their wedding at Zorgvliet Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, we could never even have hoped for the perfect day it turned out to be. The weather was warm, but not hot, the sky was the clearest of blues and the mountains were awash in shades of purples and greys, perfectly matching the colours of their wedding!

With Christo being in the acting industry, they decided to pull the theme through by giving each of the tables at the reception the name of one of their favourite movies. The table names were displayed as ‘clapper boards’ and the guests’ seats were allocated by means of a ‘movie ticket’.

The star-studded guest list were all decked out in their sunday best and with ‘Neville’ (Zane Meas) at the helm as the master of ceremonies, ‘Aunty Charmaine’ (Vinette Ibrahim) giving a toast and Christo’s two on-screen brothers (‘Vince’ and ‘Xander’) giving him advice on how to treat his new wife, even the 7e Laan family shared in their most special day.

The wedding cake was an amazing, 4-tier creation in white, decorated with the most delicate purple roses. It took centre stage on the dancefloor till the couple felt that it was time to show us their moves. And what moves! The guests also surprised us with a line dance to a popular Whitney Houston song and after that, there was not a moment of rest for the DJ.

The sun went down and the stars came out and shone over one happy couple and many happy friends and family members who shared in the best day of their lives. We wish these two All Stars a romance and ‘happily ever after’ that will make even the best of their favourite movies look weak and washed out.

Karlien & Derick: 8 Maart 2013 – ‘n Nuwe Begin

Corporate Event: Metropolitan office launch

IMG_4245 (800x533)On 2 March 2013, a brand new office was launched for Metropolitan in Worcester at the Quenets mall. The purpose of this event was to create awareness and to draw new clients from the area.

The Carnival theme was carried through with balloon arches, slush puppies, cotton candy and popcorn that was handed out around the mall and stilt walkers handing out flyers and pamphlets in the surrounding streets, all in the Metropolitan colours of bright blue and white. The Metropolitan staff were on site to help potential clients fill out forms, to tell them more about what Metropolitan has to offer and to hand out some of the amazing prizes that people could win on the day.

IMG_4147 (800x533) IMG_4193 (533x800)

When all the prizes and treats were handed out and the stilt walkers could not stay on top of their ‘legs’ any longer, we could look back on a very successful day and Worcester was well aware that Metropolitan was in town.

Lindsay&Scott: 16 February 2013 – Modern Travel

Lindsay and Scott spent a great part of their lives together traveling the world and thought it apt to make that the central theme to their wedding. They were such a great couple to work with and what was interesting was that Scott, rather than Lindsay, was the one to fuss about the exact sizes of the place mats and the colour of the ribbons. Everything had to be just right on the day that he promised ‘forever’ to the love of his life.

They got married under a white gazebo with the amazing Stellenbosch mountains as their backdrop on the lawn of the prestigious Asara Wine Estate and the weather was perfect! The colour scheme of their wedding was mainly white and aqua, with just a touch of coral, reflected mainly in the ties, socks and colourful elbow patches of the Groom and groomsmen and the dresses of the bridesmaids.

Guests were treated to canapes, live entertainment and lawn games after the ceremony while the couple had their photo’s taken and there was even an old-school mini Gelato stand that had them coming back for more (and more.)

To congratulate the couple and leave them words of wisdom, guests were asked to ‘post’ post cards in a real, red postbox and in order to find their seats at the reception, they had to check their names and destinations on two canvasses that resembled airport arrival and departure announcement boards. Every table had the name of a different destination that the couple have travelled to together and the big ‘piece de resistance’ was the Louis Vuitton travel-case wedding cake!

It was an evening of love, laughter and many special moments and I know that the couple will travel down memory lane many times in the years to come to re-visit this most magical night of their lives.
