The Big Fat Greek 40th Birthday Bash

Grown men dressed in sheets and sandals, strategically placed ivy vines,
illegal amounts of gold jewellery...yes, you guessed it: a Greek themed party!

On the 5th of March 2011 the cream of the Northern Suburbs
gathered at Ke Monate Bistro in Durbanville for a
40th birthday bash with lots of 'OPA'! If it weren't for the spectacular mountains
surrounding the venue that could only mean Cape Town, I would have sworn we were in
Ancient Greece, with a goddess or two to boot!
There was enough Ouzo to go around (a couple of times) and soon the party looked
and sounded like a Mount Olympus fun fair. Retha Rix, our very own Edesia, served
what can only be described as the 'food of the gods' (most of the names could not
be pronounced safely, but in the end everybody begged for more!)There were flatbreads
with all kinds of creamy yoghurt dips and tzatziki, olives in all edible formats, cheese,
the most decadent lemon chicken and 'Arni me Patates sto Fourno' (roughly translated as
roast lamb and potatoes). Of course, no Greek meal is complete without Baklava and sweet
treats for dessert. Can I get another 'OPA' please?!

Traditional Greek dancers from the Cape Geometic Society led the guests around the venue
with traditional Greek line- and group dances and soon the plates were flying!

Blank Canvas was glad that our Herculean effort to create Ancient Greece in modern
Cape Town turned out to be a huge success and to celebrate, we even broke a few plates
ourselves...OPA!!

We came, we saw, we did the Grapevine!
